Dear Expecting Mom,

I know how excited you must be to be having those little ones coming soon. I also know how nervous and scared you must be. Twins are terrifying. However, twins can also be absolutely amazing. As a mom of two year old twins myself, I know you must be filled with all these questions. The most important one being “how am I going to to do this?”

Well mom, I’m here to tell you that is is going to be hard. It’s going to be so hard, that sometimes you feel like you can’t do it. There will be non-stop crying, non- stop diaper changes and non- stop feeding. There will be days where you live off of coffee because when you finally get one to sleep, the other one will wake up screaming. You will be sleep deprived and hungry, as there is never any time to eat!

Somedays will be overwhelming . There will be lots of days where you feel alone, that no one understands what you are going through. And the truth is, they don’t understand. Unless you have people around you with twins, they do not understand.

Hey expecting mom, don’t forget, to make some time for yourself . You will need help, a lot of help. So ask. You may not want to bother people. BUT, help will keep you sane. It will give you much needed alone time. And you will get through being a new mommy of twins. And you will be okay! The days will seem easier and you’ll start to feel like super woman. You figured out how to make it through with two!

And Mom, don’t stress about what people will say to you. They are not you, they do now know what it’s like having two. And they will try and give you advice. But I don’t care what they say, it’s not the same as twins. Everyone will have suggestions on what to do for sleep regression, or picky eaters, or potty training tricks. Raising twins is not the same as raising a singleton. Having two is not the same as having kids a year apart. Go on facebook groups, find other moms of twins. Those are the people who can give you sane advice. Listen to them. Find your lifeline.

I promise you mom, it DOES get better.

It also get’s harder!

Hey expecting mom, it get’s better when they start walking, and start eating on their own. But, it gets harder too! You now have 2 kids running around making a mess everywhere, and 2 kids rubbing spaghetti all over each other!

Mom, it gets better when they start babbling and talking to each other. There are 2 little voices to enjoy, and watch learn and grow. They will have 2 of the cutest laughs to hear, and 2 people to bring you tears of joy. It gets better, but then it gets harder. It gets harder when they start fighting, over everything– even if you already bought them each their own. The screaming and crying gets unbearable. Buy yourself some headphones.

It’s gets better, as they grow and your twins become best friends. They will hug and kiss each other, they will make a mess together and clean it up together. They will role play, and push each other on the swing. They will speak kindly to each other, and they will always wait for each other. They will also drive you crazy together. They will cause pure chaos. They will destroy every pillow you have, and hide in your curtains together. They will both jump off the couch and laugh because mommies mad – and then do it again. Mom, just enjoy every second of the journey. Laugh when you can and remember that it gets better.

It gets better when you will look at them and become filled with instant joy. They will make you laugh. They will be the very highlight of your day. There are two to love you, two to kiss and hug you. There are two that will fight to sit on your lap, and two who will fight to play with you. There are two who want to hold your hand and two who want to be pushed on the swing. Sure there’s two, and it will be hard. But, it’s also absolutely amazing!

Remember new mom, you will have two!

Having two may be twice as hard, but it’s also twice as wonderful.

When times get tough, remember that you get two babies to watch grow, to hear laugh, to cuddle with. Two babies to hold, tuck into bed and who will light up your life. Two who will give you all their love and two who will need you more than anyone else in the world! You get to have two! Everyone else got one!

To the expecting mom, you are going to be absolutely amazing. You got this!

Signed,

A Mom of Twins
