What helps with losing that baby weight after twins?

Are you having trouble finding time or energy to get started on losing that extra baby weight?

If there’s anything I can relate to, it’s how frustrating losing the baby weight can be. It’s hard! And anyone that says differently, is lying. Between the lack of sleep from having two newborns, the house chores, laundry, the c- section pouch (if applicable) and finding time for work or self care, there just never seems to be enough hours in the day.

It sounds nearly impossible to find any time to start any type of weight loss. Finding time to do something for yourself can feel so far away from reality.

So, what works? And how can we lose that baby weight?

There are many weight loss programs and specific diets and pills out there. But everyone is different, so what works for one person will not work for another. However, it’s the consistency of diet, the will power and mindset that really make any diet work. (More on this later)

Here are some weight loss tips that I have learned from my venture to lose weight:

1. Be cautious of fad diets

Twin moms need their energy, especially if breastfeeding. Starting a diet after having babies can get all types of complicated. Finding the right foods to buy can be quite time consuming and, making a separate meal for yourself than what your kids eat is just a pain.

I have never been a fan of diets, after all I love food. I like to eat what I want to eat, when I want to eat it. I do not like to limit what I can eat because of a diet. Because of this I was never successful when trying any type of diet.

According to research done at UCLA diets do not work, or last. When dieting you will lose an average of 5 to 10 pounds, so you feel good and get excited. But keeping that weight off or even maintaining to keep it much off, is something most people never do with a diet. Most people end up gaining it back.

2. Eat healthy

Of course eating the right food is important when losing weight to get your pre mom body back. It is also especially important if breastfeeding. I myself struggled with eating better,(even when breast-feeding). But, once I started being mindful of what I was eating, I started feeling better, I had more energy and was actually less hungry. I became more motivated to continue to eat better. It was all about staying consistent with what was working and to keep going even on days when I did not feel like it.

Here are some foods that are healthy and will help keep you fuller to help start losing the baby weight:

1. Lean protein will help lose that baby weight

According to Forbes Health, Lean protein such as chicken or turkey are important to help keep you full, and decrease food cravings. Plant- based protein such as beans or lentils also help to keep you full, and are extremely high in fiber.

2. Eat plenty of vegetables

Vegetables can help with weight loss. They are high in fiber and help digestive issues. Also, leafy vegetables that are dark green in color have high amounts of protein and vitamins, that aid in weight loss.

Some vegetables to consider are:

  • broccoli
  • lima beans
  • green beans
  • butternut squash
  • kale
  • carrots
  • spinach
  • green beans

3. Eat plenty of fruit to help keep that baby weight off

According to Healthline, fruits are low in calories and high in fiber, making it a great food to eat when wanting to loss weight. Fruits are easy snacks, that support a healthy diet and weight loss.

Here are some easy to snack fruit:

  • grapefruit
  • kiwi
  • melon
  • berries
  • apples
  • peaches/nectarine
  • cherries
  • oranges

4. Nuts and seeds will help lose weight

Seeds, such as chia seeds, help to decrease hunger and keep you fuller longer. If eaten along with other healthy foods, chia seeds can help with weight loss.

According to Healthline, nuts such as walnuts, pistachios, almonds, hazelnuts and cashews help with weight loss.

Nuts have many health benefits such as being high in fiber. Since they are so rich with fiber, they can help to control calorie intake.

3. Drink plenty of water for healthy weight loss

Water is such an important part of a healthy life style. It is an appetite suppressant, it increases calorie burning, and flushes all the toxins out of your body. I was always a big water drinker, but I noticed that I was forgetting to drink water with 2 babies running around. I now make sure to drink at least 64 ounces of water. When I start to feel hungry I will drink water. Studies show that often we think we are hungry, but we’re really thirsty.

If you are not a fan of regular water, alkaline water, or smart water, have extra electrolytes and tastes much smoother (if you ever drank it you will know what I mean)!

Seltzer water is not a good drink to use if you are trying to lose weight, as the bubbles cause you to actually be more thirsty.

4. Fat burning teas and coffees for a jump start on baby weight loss

There are many weight loss products out there, I have tried many. The ones that seemed to work the best are the ones that have fat burning ingredients. Skinny fit detox tea was one product I tried that I liked. I felt less hungry and it tasted good! This is a detox tea that helps reduce stomach bloating, flushes out unwanted toxins, and promotes a healthy digestion to help with flattening your tummy! (Perfect for moms of twins)!

However, for me, this detox tea was short lived because I don’t drink tea everyday – so I would force myself to drink it. But if you are a tea drinker Skinny fit might be something you want to try to kick start that weight loss.

2. Skinny brew coffee from Itworks!, is by far my favorite weight loss product. Not only does it curve hunger, but it also tastes great! This is an instant coffee that helps burn fat and energizes your brain. Skinny brew coffee has thermogenic, adaptogenic, and metabolism- boosting ingredients that I have found helpful in giving me all day long energy.

I highly recommend Itworks weight loss coffee, teas and weight loss gummies! They definitely help to get started with baby weight loss, feel more confidant and get more energy.

4. Exercise to help lose the baby weight

I know, I know- finding time to exercise is impossible with 2 babies at home.

BUT…

weight loss will never happen unless there is some sort of exercise that goes with it.

It does not have to be a long workout by any means. Ten minutes will do. However, there are certain exercises that help with mom tummy. So if you are limited on time, you can focus on these. And remember, consistency is important to keep your energy high and your weight loss off. So make sure you have a plan of when you are going to fit your exercises in, and stick to that plan!

You can read more about routines and planning your time here.

There are some work out options you might want to consider, that can help you to be consistent and fit your workout into your schedule. There are many quick tummy toning workouts you can find and many free workout apps you can download and use in your own time.

FitON a free app you can download, that gives you a choice on what body part you want to work on, how long you want the workout to be, and what kind of workout you want (yoga, HIIT, meditation). This app is perfect for moms with little time trying to get their body back!

Beachbody now known as Bodyi, is another program that I have used for years. What I love about this workout app, is that there are many different types of workouts and instructors. You can find what you are looking for in many different forms. They also have plans for healthy eating and shakes to help with hunger cravings.

If you need support, Beachbody has coaches that will help you pick the workouts and products that best fit your needs. You will find a whole community of moms, just like you, who can support each other!

5. Change your mindset, change your life

The number one thing that was successful for me was changing my mindset. Once I started reading about mindset, listening to inspiration speeches, and listening to podcasts I really started motivating myself to get it done. I realized that I needed to really want to lose the weight, and talk myself out of the excuses. One of the things I did was read the book “The 5 Second Rule,” by Mel Robins. It really helped with my my mindset.

According to Health US News, losing weight is more than diet and exercise. “Shifting your mindset about how to lose weight is the biggest factor in losing weight,” says therapist Kathryn Smerling. Most people try to lose weight when in a bad state of mind, but being in a good state will help losing weight that much more successful.

You have to decide in your mind that you really want to lose the baby weight. You have to decide to do the exercises, to eat the right foods and be consistent with products that you want to use.
